United Bible Societies (UBS)

The United Bible Societies is a fellowship of 145 national Bible Societies working to place God's Word in the hearts and minds of the people they serve across 200 countries and territories.

Translation
Translation is at the heart of Bible Society work. There are an estimated 6,900 languages in the world : the complete Bible is available in just 471.
See UBS Scripture Language Report 2008 for further information.
The UBS Language Table provides details on the number of languages in which the complete Bible, or New Testament or a single book of the Bible, is available.

Distribution
Bible Societies worldwide make Scriptures available through direct sales, subsidized and free distribution programmes in schools, prisons, hospitals etc. Each year the UBS provide details of the numbers distributed - see the UBS Distribution Report.

Programme
Programmes include literacy initiatives, projects supporting women suffering from domestic violence, storytelling, training courses, HIV/AIDS programmes, Braille Scriptures...
The National Bible Society of Ireland supports over 30 different projects each year.

Fundraising
Bible Societies rely on financial support to fulfill their mission. Corporate, church and individual donations ensure projects can be undertaken.
