New Living Translation (1996)  Living Bible (1971)

This is a thorough revision of the Living Bible.

Isaiah 9:2-3
The people who walk in darkness will see a great light - a light that will shine on all who live in the land where death casts its shadow. Israel will again be great, and its people will rejoice as people rejoice at harvesttime. They will shout with joy like warriors dividing the plunder.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd;
I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength.
He guides me along right path,
bringing honor to his name.

1 John 4:7-8
Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God.
Anyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
But anyone who does not love does not know God - for God is love.

A modern paraphrase of the Bible. The Catholic edition (The Way) is very popular for those beginning Bible study.

Isaiah 9:2-3
The people who walk in darkness shall see a great Light - a Light that will shine on all those who live in the land of the shadow of death. For Israel will again be great, filled with joy like that of reapers when the harvest time has come, and like that of men dividing up the plunder they have won.

Psalm 23
Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need! He lets me rest in the meadow grass and leads me beside the quiet streams. He restores my failing health. He helps me do what honours him the most.

1 John 4:7-8
Dear friends, let us practice loving each other, for love comes from God and those who are loving and kind show that they are the children of god, and that they are getting to know him better. But if a person isn't loving and kind, it shows that he doesn't know God - for God is love.
