Jerusalem Bible (1966) New Jerusalem Bible (1985)

An accurate and attractively poetic version of the French translation made by Dominican scholars at the Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem. The version prescribed to be used in Catholic churches in Ireland

Isaiah
The people that walked in great darkness
have seen a great light;
on those who live in a land of deep
shadow
a light has shone.
You have made their gladness greater,
you have made their joy increase;
they rejoice in your presence
as men rejoice at harvest time,
as men are happy when they are dividing
the spoils.

Psalm 23
The Good Shepherd
Yahweh is my shepherd.
I lack nothing.
In meadows of green grass he lets me
lie.
To the waters of repose he leads me;
there he revives my soul.
He guides me by the paths of virtue
for the sake of his name.

1 John
Love
My dear people,
Let us love one another
since love comes from God
and everyone who loves is begotten by
God and knows God
Anyone who fails to love can never have
known God,
because God is love.

Isaiah
The people that walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
on the inhabitants of a country
in shadow dark as death
light has blazed forth.
You have enlarged the nation,
you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at harvest time,
as they exult
when they are dividing the spoils.

Psalm 23
The good Shepherd
Yahweh is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
In grassy meadows he lets me lie.
By tranquil streams he leads me
to restore my spirit.
He guides me in paths of saving justice
as befits his name.

1 John
The source of love
My dear friends,
let us love one another,
since love is from God
and everyone who loves
is a child of God and knows God.
Whoever fails to love does not know God,
because God is love.
