Ethiopia

No Bible? That was hard enough for speakers of Gurague Chaha. But it was even worse than that - there was no printed material in their language alt all! Thanks to the Bible Society of Ethiopa, this situation is now being reversed.

The New Testament was translated in Gurague Chaha almost 30 years ago but it was not widely available to speakers of the language.

As work began on the Gurague Chaha Old Testament, the New Testament was also revised. Finally, 20 years later, the full Gurague Chaha Bible is ready. With no other printed material available, its impact will spread far beyond the Christian community.

March 12 was the day designated for the launch. Almost 1,000 people participated in prayer, singing and declarations that, thanks to this Bible, Christian speakers of Gurague Chaha will be able to stand firmer in their faith, nourished by the Word of God in a form that they can easily understand.

China

China is synonymous with change, with economic boom and with the 'made in China' goods that can be found in every household across the globe. What is less well known, perhaps, is that China is home to one of the world's fastest-growing Christian populations. Or that the Bible has become a home-grown, 'made in China' product that is selling faster than any other book in this socialist country.

In 1987, together with the Amity Foundation and the China Christian Council, the Bible Societies set up the Amity Printing Press in Nanjing. Since then, it has produced more than 60 million Bibles, helping the Church in China to meet the huge demand for Scripture among Chinese Christians.

This work in China is one of the key features of the Bible Society fellowship that makes its work distinct from that of any other Christian organisation.

Made in China (4 minutes) video touches on the history of the Amity Press in China, but its main focus is how Bible availability is impacting ordinary Christians in China.

In 2010 China's first Bible and medical van made its debut journey to Shang Dang village church in Jiangsu Province. People queued to see the volunteer doctors and others received Bibles in the church.

Hefei Church video shows people queuing to purchase Bible and the impact receiving a copy has on one lady.
