LUKE THE BOOK CD-ROM PROJECT Following the success of the Luke the Book initiative National Bible Society of Ireland and Scripture Union are developing an interactive CD-ROM for children between the ages of eight and eleven.
The CD-ROM combines animated Bible stories from the Gospel according to St Luke with interactive games and learning exercises. This innovative project is the first interactive multimedia resource to be produced specifically for Irish schools. It utilises new technologies to engage children with the Christian faith. It follows the highly successful print version of Luke the Book, which was distributed to over 130,000 children throughout Ireland in 2003. As with the book, the CD-ROM is designed for use in the classroom. The product development is being overseen by a selection of teachers to ensure its relevance and value as a religious education resource at primary school level. Digger The CD-ROM follows Digger, an alien who arrives on Earth to discover more about the Bible. He is on a quest to learn who Jesus was and what makes Him so special. At the beginning of the CD-ROM, Digger arrives carrying a fragment of a manuscript containing Luke's Gospel. He doesn't know where it is from...or what it means...or where his journey will lead him...The user must help Digger on this journey as he 'digs' for the knowledge of the Bible!
