The last group has finished writing and almost all the text is complete. The pages will be collated and bound into about 20 volumes.

The leaders of the four main Christian denominations began the project in May 2006. They copied the first four verses of Genesis and the first verse of each Gospel. They did this twice! Once for the Handwritten Bible in Northern Ireland and once for the Handwritten Bible in the Republic.

President Mary McAleese copied from the Gospel of John, Chapter 1, verses 2 to 5 in Aras an Uachtarain.

Councillor Vincent Jackson, Lord Mayor of Dublin, and Veronica Jackson the Lady Mayoress copied John Chapter 1, verses 6 to 14 in the Mansion House.

Some of the Patrons of Bible Society also participated:
Archbishop John Neill wrote Genesis Chapter 1 verses 14 to 16 in Bible House.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin wrote Psalm 50 verse 15 in Balally Parish Church.
Pastor Robert Dunlop wrote Genesis Chapter 1 verses 17 to 19 in Glenstal Abbey.

Some interesting figures:
Almost 10,000 individuals participated.
There were 135 'writing stations'.

The ages of our participants has ranged from under 3 to '95+'.
Almost 66% of the participants have been 17 or under, 8% 65 and over.
40% of the participating groups were churches, 13% Post Primary Schools and 39% Primary Schools.
